At the end of the Summer Term, fifty Year 9 pupils had the opportunity to visit Farnborough International Airshow to experience some exhilarating air displays and learn about careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).
Futures Day was one of the highlights of the airshow calendar when the event opened its doors to young people. The aim was to allow young people of the Solent area to learn about careers in Aerospace and the importance of STEM subjects in career pathways. The airshow only takes place once every two years so this was a rare opportunity for our pupils to experience first-hand career opportunities in the Aerospace sector.
As well as providing an opportunity to engage with exhibitors, the programme for the day also included a series of mini conferences and industry talks, activity trails taking in specific areas of the site and the International Rocketry Challenge held between teams from the UK, USA and France. Central to the day’s events was the Innovation Zone where students experienced aerospace technology of the future and meet with academic institutions.
